If you are in an abusive relationship but are not yet ready to leave then there are steps you can take to access help and support:

  • Talk to your GP/Health Visitor - whatever will you talk about will be CONFIDENTIAL
  • Have injuries recorded with GP, Health Visitor or hospital - may be needed at a later date
  • Access a support agency
  • Gather information on transferrable pensions, benefits, kids, solicitors, legal rights
  • Keep legal papers/mortgage papers etc in safe accessable place in case you do need to flee
  • Keep a journal which includes history of incidences - leave it at a safe, confidential place, i.e. a trusted friend or relative, or Avenues
  • Set some money aside and leave in a safe place
  • Keep bags of clothes in a safe place
  • Have women's refuge number and taxi number at all times
  • Keep change for phone and taxi
  • Know where your local police station is that is operational 24 hours a day

Keep reminding yourself that YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME

If you live in North Tyneside call Avenues on 0191 2005887 to refer to the project. If you woud rather not call you can fill in the short referral form and we will call you as soon as possible.
