Below are some suggestions for women who chose to stay in the home after separation, or for women in a new home.

  • Change locks
  • Install smoke alarms, security system and outdoor lighting
  • Program emergency numbers into phone
  • Immediately report any abuse of restraining order
  • Inform those who care for your children and let them know who has authorisation to pick children up
  • Inform neighbours of the separation/injunction/restraining order and ask they call police if they see the perpetrator near your home
  • Talk to family or friends and let them know the support you need
  • Go to a support group, enrol at college or other activities

Keep reminding yourself that YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME
